Mother, mummy, mum, ma, mater, mam, mom or even mother figure – they all hold a special and everlasting place in our hearts, and a local care home and restaurant have combined forces to celebrate this special relationship.
Lakeview Rest Homes, based in St Annes, hosted a Mother’s Day Draw, inviting people to honour their mothers and to express their appreciation for all that they have done, by sending a line, a poem, a thought or some words describing that special person and the impact she has, or has had, on their lives.
Many took the opportunity to express their love and gratitude. Denise Faber, who was the winner of the Mother’s Day Draw, had sent a heartfelt response when she said, “My mum..our queen …you were such a special lady Mum ..always thinking of others ..head of our family till the grand age of 98 ..lived life to the full, loved your whiskey – kept you going as you would say ..we as a family are honoured to have you as our queen …the last two years you lived in your 5 * hotel as you called it (The Moorings ) and gained yet more family …this Mother’s Day is going to be a hard one our first without you ..but I know you will be with us with whiskey in hand ..love and miss you Mum xxxx
Nicola is grateful to two generations of mothers in her family. She wrote:” Love you mum… I’m so lucky to have you as a mum cause you learnt from the best- my nana Joyce.. miss you nana xxx
Carole chose to express her sentiments in a poem:
“Sometimes words are hard to say
Even more so on this special day.
One day u were here the next day you were gone
But in our hearts you will always live on.
You filled our life with laughter
In every possible way,
Our memories we shall treasure every single day.
You’re a Mum in a million who’ll never be far away xx”
Tyra’s sentiments were expressed with the use of emojos:
“Ok guys not one to be soppy! BUT…..my little momma IS the best as she watches my little mini me (brat) whilst I come to work for the most fabulous home! Not to mention putting up with me for 22 years and everything that comes along with me…. she’s one in a mil ️ x”
As director Pete Wood explained, “When we invited people to send us their thoughts we really opened the door to a surge of care, warmth, treasured memories, amusing anecdotes and overwhelming love and respect for mothers. It has been so moving, and at times quite overwhelming, to read the sentiments expressed. I was just relieved that we didn’t have to choose a winner – that would have been an impossible task! Fortunately there are no losers in this competition but one lucky person, selected by draw, has received a complimentary meal at a time of their choosing.
He added his own thoughts too and summed up the sentiments of us all when he wrote,
“She was the heart of our family, wife, mother, granny and a friend.
Quick to smile, she was a keeper of confidences, a giver of love, care, warmth and safety; a protector who could offer sage advice.
All she asked for in return was a little bit of our time.”
Farina and Co., run by Arialdo Barrari and Stefano, have kindly donated a meal for four people, including also a celebratory bottle of Prosecco. Farina and Co. is a small Italian restaurant situated in the heart of Lytham, serving authentic Italian cuisine in a friendly, modern and relaxed environment. Arialdo Baccari commented, “We were delighted to join Lakeview in this Mother’s Day tribute, and will do our best to ensure that the Denise will enjoy not just a delicious meal with family and friends, but also drink a toast in celebration of all mothers, near or far, who have made us the people that we are.”
