Promedica24 partners with The Silver Line to combat loneliness

Live-in care provider, Promedica24, has announced its partnership with The Silver Line Helpline in a bid to help combat loneliness amongst older people in the community. The Silver Line is Promedica24’s Charity of the Year.

The new alliance will see Promedica24’s local partners promote and fundraise for the organisation, which relies entirely on voluntary donations to provide older people with support via its national 24/7 free and confidential helpline, alongside a range of volunteer-led befriending services.

Since its launch in November 2013, The Silver Line Helpline has received millions of calls from lonely and isolated people, with 53% of callers saying they have literally no-one else to speak to. Over 3,000 volunteers make regular weekly friendship calls or exchange letters with older people.

Piotr Haładus, Promedica24’s UK Country Manager at Promedica24, commented: “Helping to reduce loneliness in communities is one of our visions at Promedica24 and we feel strongly about supporting this very worthwhile charity who share our values.

“We are delighted to be kick starting what we hope will be a successful partnership with The Silver Line and we look forward to getting fully immersed in their fundraising efforts.”

Nina Gopal, Director of Fundraising for The Silver Line added: “I am delighted that Promedica24 have selected us as their Charity of the Year.
“In just over four years, we have received over 1.8 million calls to our helpline – averaging around 10,000 every week. 90% of our callers live alone and the majority say they speak to no-one but us – sometimes for days and weeks at a time. But we know that we have only reached the tip of the iceberg in terms of those that need us: 80% of callers every month are phoning us for the first time; and demand for our services keeps rising – which means our running costs do too.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Promedica24 over the coming year to help us to raise the vital funds that we rely on to meet this growing demand, and to continue making a true difference to the lives of the older people we support.”

Promedica24 will be taking part in Silver Week 2018 in May in order to raise vital funds for The Silver Line. The live-in care provider has already donated £5k to the charity to mark the beginning of its new partnership.

According to Age UK, 1.2 million people in England are chronically lonely, making it a much talked about issue across the UK.
